CHI RHO - the Greek letters meaning Christ |
| . |
| MEANING: St. Joseph
is represented as the patron of the Church and as the patron of the worker. He holds a
replica of St. Ann Church. The saw, hammer and square rule symbolize labor. Over the saw
is a simplified CHI RHO representing Christ. To the left and below is the letter
"M" for Mary, and a lily for her purity growing out of a crown, as she was queen
of heaven. By these three symbols the thought of the Holy Family is completed. The large
hand over entwined rings is symbolic of Matrimony. Below that, an hour glass symbolic of
Christian Death. St. Joseph is a patron of happy death. The words "PRAY" and
WORK" bring out the idea that made Joseph a Saint. Throughout the background the
acorn and oak leaf appears, suggesting Strength and Tenacity. |
